BADGERS BLISTER AIR FORCE
by Rick Pike
Badgers Win 34-0 In Home Opener
Quarterback Cade Cooper accounted for four of Snow College's five
touchdowns as the Badgers beat the Air Force Prep Academy 34-0 Saturday
in Ephraim. Cooper, a sophomore from Timpview High School, ran four
yards for a score on Snow's first possession. By halftime, he'd found
Adam Frandsen and Devin Frischknecht for scores en route to a 21-0 half
time lead. Cooper finished 21-30 for 270 yards.
"I expect to put that many points on the board every week,
whether it's me, the running backs or our wide receivers," remarked Cooper.
Cooper found Eric Haukinima for a five-yard touchdown pass late in the
third quarter and Colt Mund, a running back from Box Elder High School,
scored Snow's final touchdown on a two-yard run. Snow played without
starting running back Matt Asiata, who was suspended for the opener
because of a disqualification in December's Zions Bank Top of the
Mountains Bowl.
Snow's defense allowed Air Force only one net yard in the third quarter, 29
yards in the first half and just 82 total yards for the game.
"Our number one goal was no fourth quarter scores so once we
got there the pressure was on the defense to make sure we kept the egg up
on there," said Steve Coburn, Snow's head coach. "Their quarterback didn't
want the ball - you could see it in his eyes. He was looking for someone to
pitch it to."
The only negative was penalties. Snow was penalized 15 times - several of
them holding.
"I
expect to put that many points on the board every week, whether it's me,
the running backs or our wide receivers."

"Too many penalties - that's unacceptable," stated Coburn. "But it's the
first game, these guys have played spring and fall without anyone throwing
flags on them. We'll get that fixed."
Snow travels to Scottsdale next week and returns home Saturday,
September 9 to face the Ogden Rhinos.
