BADGERS WIN NUMBER FIVE
by Gary Chidester
Snow Comes From Behind For 48-17 Win
The Snow College Badgers trailed for the first time this season 6-7, but
quickly erased that deficit on their way to win number five on the season
48-17.
The Badgers took the opening drive 82 yards and capped off the drive with a
five yard run by Matt Asiata. The extra point failed and the Badgers led
6-0. The Broncos answered with an 81 yard scoring drive, added the extra
point and the Badgers found themselves behind in a football game for the
first time this season.
"They are a talented team," said Head Coach Steve Coburn. "We knew that
coming into the game and we knew that they would pose problems and
challenges for us."
Snow College rose to the challenge by scoring 35 unanswered points building
a 41-7 lead and coasting for the win.
Cade Cooper passed 10 yards to Alex Richards for the first answering score
as the first quarter was winding down. Cooper then found Troy Cummings on a
17 yard scoring strike early in the second quarter. Aric Hutchinson
returned a fumble for another score. Colt Mund had two rushing scores of
one and two yards. After a New Mexico Military score, Soni Sotele had a
three yards rushing touchdown to complete the route.
"We are starting to come together," said Coburn. "We are trying to stay
focused on each game as it comes and improve each week."
The Badgers will face Glendale Community College this week on the road in
what could be the game that determines the conference championship.
Glendale is undefeated and ranked in the top five of the nation. They are
also coming off an important win against another of the conference
challengers Eastern Arizona 34-24. Snow College will be trying to avenge
one of their two losses from last season.
Cooper finished the game against the Broncos with 282 yards passing two
touchdowns and no interceptions. Devin Frischknecht had four catches for
115 yards, Cameron Webb 2 catches for 54 yards and Alex Richards 4 catches
for 53 yards.
Colt Mund had 82 yards rushing on 17 carries in the Badgers win.
Snow College will face Glendale in Arizona on Saturday. KMTI-Am 650 will
carry the game and the game can also be heard on the internet by logging
