Cooper Accounts for Five Touchdowns and Defense Holds Pima to 12 yards

EPHRAIM, Utah—September 16, 2006—Only halftime stopped Snow College Saturday. The Badgers blocked, passed and ran their way to a 51-0 halftime lead en route to a 61-0 victory over Pima Community College.

It started with special teams. Josh Crittenden caught a punt blocked by Adam Frandsen in the endzone for the first Badger touchdown. It was the first of two blocked punts by the Badger special teams.

“We put a new block play in this week that they (Pima) hadn’t seen before,” said Steve Coburn, Snow’s head coach. “We also rushed an additional man just to be more aggressive and give them a different look.”

Minutes later, Cade Cooper found Troy Cummings for a 22-yard touchdown followed by a 48-yard touchdown pass to Matt Hadfield and a 77-yard touchdown toss to Adam Frandsen.

“With their defensive scheme, we knew that the flats would be open,” remarked Coburn. “Both the Hadfield and Frandsen touchdowns were throws to the flat.”

Cooper threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more – both late in the second quarter. The second touchdown run was a nifty start and stop where he shed three tackles from 10 yards out. Cooper was 11 of 15 for 223 yards in just one half of play.

Matt Asiata also got into the action running for 128 yards and two touchdowns. His final score was a two-yard touchdown run on the second series of the second half. The touchdown drive was highlighted by an Asiata 48-yard scamper through the Aztec defense.

Snow played second and third team players for most of the third and fourth quarters. The Badger offense totaled 532 yards while the defense held Pima to a net total 12 yards.

“I don’t know that you ever know you’ll win a game this big but we knew we were the better team coming into this one. All three phases were very prepared and executed very well today,” said Coburn.

Snow, 4-0 and currently ranked fifth in the NJCAA Top 20, travels to Roswell, NM next week to face New Mexico Military.
