BADGERS WIN BIG
by Gary Chidester
Badgers Have Second Shutout Of The Season 61-0
In a season that is only four games old the Badgers have shut out the
opponent in half of those games. The latest victim is Pima Community
College who fell to Snow College 61-0.
The special
teams contributed to the win with two blocked punts resulting in a touchdown
to start the scoring in the first quarter and another block in the second
quarter that netted a safety. The Badgers smothering defense really gave no
hope to a team that is rebuilding after not finishing the 2005 season.
The defense allowed just 34 yards of total offense. Six yards rushing and
28 yards passing were all that were surrendered by the stingy Badger
defense.
"We played everyone we could," said Defensive Coordinator Justin DeCol. "No
starter played past half time and we got some good minutes for guys that are
trying to make an impact."
Not all of the games will be this easy for the Badgers and the coaches and
players all know it.
"It's hard to get ready for teams like New Mexico Military Institute and
Glendale Community College," said DeCol. "We just take them one at a time
and try to stay focused on the next game on the schedule. It's important
that we are getting better each week."
Snow College started their scoring with a blocked punt by wide receiver Adam
Frandsen that was recovered and walked into the endzone by Josh Crittenden.
The bulk of the scoring came in the second quarter.
After the blocked punt the Badgers added a 22 yard pass from Cade Cooper to
Troy Cummings and the 14-0 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter
Snow College had a 47-yard touchdown pass from Cooper to Matt Hadfield, a
77-yard pass from Cooper to Frandsen, a 9-yard touchdown run by Cooper, a
blocked punt by Gavin Jones for a safety, a 1-yard TD run by Matt Asiata and
Cooper finished it off with no time on the clock on a 10-yard scamper.
A 51-0 lead at the half pretty much sealed off the fates of the starters to
watching the second half from the sidelines. Still Cooper was able to total
225 yards passing, three touchdowns passing and two more rushing. Asiata
finished with 145 yards rushing and two touchdowns. His second score came
on a two yard rush.
Zac Manning, who is perfect on the season on point after kicks, added a 27
yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
The Badgers will be on the road this week to face the Broncos of New Mexico
Military Institute.
