BADGERS
COMPLETE SECOND
SPRING SCRIMMAGE 2007
Scrimmages and Spring Game Open to the Public
EPHRAIM,
Utah—March 14, 2007-—The
Badgers completed their second scrimmage of the spring with both sides
of the ball seeing great plays. This scrimmage featured work in the
kicking game, as well as work
in situational football such as the red zone and 3rd downs.
The scrimmage went for 50 plays and saw members of
the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team all receive action.
Offensively the day was highlighted by a great performance
by freshman receiver, Tage Clifford. Clifford, who prepped at Northridge
High, had four receptions for 109 yards and three touchdowns. His
great day also included a 70 yard bomb from Jordan Douglas who is
currently competing for the vacated quarterback position.
Douglas, who saw limited work, was 2-5 for 74 yards
and had two touchdowns on the day.
Coaches were also pleased with the performance of
receivers Adam Frandsen and Sam Thomas as well as tight end Joseph
Sawyer. Sawyer has been a top playmaker for the offensive side throughout
spring drills.
And as the pass game performed well for the Badgers,
their run game was outmatched Saturday morning. The combined efforts
of the front seven for Snow College created limited running room for
Badger ball carriers all day.
Shane Hunter, Shawn Asiata and Josh Anderson from
the Badger linebacking corps were tremendous with their play. Asiata,
for his part, made a couple of big stops in red zone drills and when
the Badgers took part in a drill where the offense is backed up on
their own three yard line and they have to battle their way out.
Coleby Clawson, a defensive end and local product
from North Sanpete High School, had one sack on the day. Clawson is
part of a front four that continues to be building towards the best
front in junior college football. David Tufuga and Tevita Hola each
had a couple of stops on Saturday from their defensive tackle position.
Lee Millard, who has been working with the 2nd team at defensive tackle
also made a couple of tackles including one for a 6-yard loss.
The Badger secondary did not play as well as they
have in recent practices, but Coach Steve Coburn saw something after
practice that really caught his eye. “There were a couple of
guys so upset afterwards. They take so much pride in this program
and their performance level that I know they will bounce back.”
Andrew Rich, a freshman safety from Bonneville High
(Ogden, UT), has been working with the 1st team every day throughout
spring and is the clear leader in the secondary. “Andrew is
smart and flies around to the ball. I am very pleased with him,”
said Justin DeCol, the Badgers defensive coordinator.
Coach Coburn, entering his second season at the helm
for Snow College feels his team has improved daily. “We are
still a long way from where we want to be, but we are getting better.”
With only one week of spring drills remaining, the
Badgers have had a productive spring period according to Coach Coburn.
“I have a great feeling about this team. The guys who you can
see will be players for us come fall time are exerting leadership
and have brought a great attitude to practice.”
The Badgers will finish spring drills on April 21st
when they will hold their annual Blue-White game. Game time is set
for 12:00 PM and will feature a Polynesian plate lunch which was a
huge hit during last year’s spring game. Attendance for the
game is free and tickets for the plate lunch are $6 if paid in advance
and $7 at the door.
Snow College, founded in 1888, serves
approximately 3,000 students at its Ephraim campus. The college provides
general education and applied technology programs leading to Associate
of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science and Associate
of Pre-Engineering degrees, and certificates of completion in a number
of occupational areas. Once
owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Snow College
became a state college in 1932.
