DEFENSE OUTSHINES OFFENSE
IN ANNUAL BLUE-WHITE SCRIMMAGE

The Badger Defense Continue Its Dominance

Snow College concluded its spring football drills on Robert L. Stoddard Field at Badger Stadium this past Saturday when the team took part in the annual Blue-White scrimmage.  Mixed with the smells from the Polynesian Luau taking place at the stadium, football was definitely in the air as the Badgers took one more step towards the 2008 season.

The scrimmage separated the offense (white) from the defense (blue).  This year’s edition of the Blue-White scrimmage featured no point system which has become popular for many schools around the country.  Rather the coaches elected to start the ball for play at various parts on the field so the members of the team could get more of a true game feel.  In addition, multiple special team situations were scripted into the scrimmage as well.

In the 1st half the Badger defense dominated the offense.  Five three-and-outs for Snow College forced by its defense highlighted the early going.  Pressure constantly was in the face of Badger quarterbacks and to make matters worse a stiff head wind completely disabled the passing game of Snow College.  With the offense forced into a run only approach the Badger defense which has been known for its ability to stuff the run, did just that on Saturday limiting running lanes for Badger ball carriers.

In the second half, the first team offense for Snow was able to generate two scores on two possessions led by Jon Eastman and local product Tyson Church (North Sanpete – Mt. Pleasant, Utah).  A couple of shifty runs by Church as well as a reception out of the backfield from Eastman led to their first score.  On their ensuing possession Eastman connected with Kyle Hatch for a 20 yard scoring strike which was the final offensive play of the scrimmage.

“The offense finished with on a positive note; however, our defense was simply outstanding on Saturday.  They played tremendous for us all spring for that matter.”

The Badgers concluded spring drills with a great deal of work accomplished.  Both sides of the ball were competitive throughout the spring and left spring injury free.

“Spring ball was very productive for us.  We exited spring without any real injury and answered many questions surrounding our team.  This group combined with next year’s freshmen will give us a great shot towards our goals.”

The Badgers begin their regular season on the road versus Air Force Prep.  The game is on August 29th and will play their first home game against Phoenix on September 6th.  The game against Phoenix will be Snow’s first ever home game at night as the Badgers will also open up 2,500 seats on the stadium’s east end.
