SNOW FOOTBALL: BADGERS IMPROVE TO 6-0 WITH WIN OVER SCOTTSDALE
by Greg Dart
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ - The No. 2 Snow College football team continued its winning ways with a 35-7 road victory over Scottsdale Community College Saturday.
The Badgers took a 28-0 lead into halftime and cruised to the easy win over the conference foe.
“We had a great first half,” said head coach Steve Coburn. “When you are on the road, it’s important to jump out to an early lead..”
The win moved the Badgers to 6-0 on the year, and after back to back road games, Snow will be at home for two straight weeks. They face New Mexico Military for Homecoming this Saturday.
Scottsdale was held to minus 34 yards rushing, and 127 total yards. The lone Scottsdale score came on an interception return for a touchdown. Snow recorded nine sacks in the contest.
“Our defense really came out and played a great game,” said Coburn. “They stepped up and played tough. When they play like that, we are really tough to beat.”
Snow extended its lead to 35-0 with five minutes left in the third quarter, as running back Tyson Church, a freshman out of North Sanpete High School, plunged in from two yards for his second touchdown.
Snow quarterback Quinn Mecham, a freshman out of Timpview High School, passed for 185 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Sam Thomas and Peter Tuitupou for scores.
Snow return man and receiver Regan Buck continued to dominate the return game, including taking a punt 72 yards for a touchdown.
Snow returns to Badger Stadium for its homecoming game against New Mexico Military Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. and the game will be aired live at KMTI 650 AM and on kmtiradio.com.
