BADGERS PRE-SEASON #4 IN NJCAA POLL

Coach Steve Coburn will enter his fourth season as Snow College’s Head Coach with his team sitting at the #4 ranked position in the NJCAA.

Snow, under Coburn, is 33-3 in three years while winning the WSFL conference in each season.  In 2007 and 2008 they were the runner-up in the NJCAA National Championship Game.  The Badgers have also won home games in 23 consecutive contests.

The 2009 version of Snow College will be led by quarterback, Quinn Mecham.  Mecham threw for 1,851 yards and 25 touchdowns as a freshman.  Mecham will be aided by two other returning starters and NJCAA 1st Team Pre-Season All-Americans in running back, Tyson Church and offensive lineman, Devin Tavana.  Church compiled 1,227 combined rushing and receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2008.

Defensively, Snow returns two defensive starters in linebackers, Tyler Osborne and Chad Wilson.  Osborne will align at middle linebacker where he accumulated 62 tackles and 5 tackles for loss.  Wilson picked up 71 tackles and 4 quarterback sacks in 2008.  In addition, Snow will also welcome the return of 2006 starter, Gavin Jones.  Jones at 6’3 and 190 pounds will provide the presence at corner that the Badgers crave.

In all, Snow returns four starters on offense and three on defense from a team that was 11-1 in 2008.  Snow; however, will be counting on some new faces to contribute right away and know that past success will not determine future results.

“We are still building here.  We want to be better this year than we ever have before.  We have a long road ahead of us to accomplish that task,” said Coburn.

Snow College will open the season on August 29th on the road at Scottsdale before returning home to play Arizona Western on September 5th.
