by Greg Dart
No. 7 Badgers Led By Two Mecham Touchdowns
EPHRAIM – The Snow College football team put together a full game
for a 30-24 win over No. 12 ranked Eastern Arizona Saturday.
The Badgers jumped out to an early lead, but trailed 17-16 at halftime before
scoring touchdowns in each of the final quarters to put Eastern on its heels
and the game out of reach.
“We knew what we were going to get with Eastern,” said Snow head
coach Steve Coburn of the Gila Monster triple option attack. “They are
big and they are fast and we knew we were in for quite a battle. Our guys came
out and played the game they had to play.”
The Badgers were actually outgained in the contest 346-313 but won the field
position battle and were able to battle for the victory. Snow took a 13-7 lead
after the first quarter but were outscored 10-3 in the second quarter. The Badgers
then put up 14 straight points to take a 30-17 lead with 11 minutes left in the
game.
Quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High School) notched another steller performance
completing 14 of 24 passes for two touchdowns and ran for another in the contest.
He hit seven receivers in the contest, none more than the five five catches for
76 yards that Phil Hinson (East High School).
Running back Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) ran for 95 yards and a
touchdown in the game.
The win moved the No. 7 ranked Badgers to 7-1 for the season and 4-0 in the Western
States Football League. The Badgers remain at home the next two weeks, including
a matchup with Phoenix Saturday at noon. The game will mark Homecoming for Snow.
