FORMER BADGERS SHINE IN
BYU-UTAH GAME

Football not over in the state;
Utah’s only in-state bowl game Saturday

EPHRAIM - Former Snow College football players shined for both team’s during BYU’s 26-23 overtime victory over Utah Saturday.

If it were not for kicker Joe Phillips, who played for the Badgers the past two seasons, the Utes may not have made it into overtime. Phillips was a perfect 4-4 on kicks in regulation and continued that streak for five total field goals in overtime. The kicker was successful enough to earn Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors despite the loss.

On the Cougar side of the ball linebacker Coleby Clawson’s name was called time and time again as he was a disrupter in the backfield and in coverage for BYU. Clawson has been a senior leader for the Cougars throughout the season, Clawson, a native of small town Wales, was an All-American during his time at Snow College in 2006-2007.

Safety Andrew Rich may have been the Badger with the most impact in the game, picking off Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn in the last minutes of the first half, helping the Cougars to a 13-6 halftime lead. Rich, who led BYU in tackles for the season, also picked off three passes from his safety position.

Although many people believe the annual rivalry game marks the end of football in Utah, the No. 8 ranked Snow College Badgers take the field Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium against the No. 3 ranked Grand Rapids Community College Raiders.
