BADGERS WIN BIG IN SHUT OUT
by Adam Mason Snow Improves to 3-0 In Conference Play Mesa, Ariz-The Snow College Badgers continued their pursuit of a national championship with a shutout victory against Mesa Community College 44-0. Snow jumped out quickly against the Mesa Thunderbirds to score the first two touchdowns of the game to take the lead 13-0. They took that lead into half time thanks to a 4th and goal stop to the Snow Badger defense with one minute left in the half. Snow’s defense held Mesa in check on the ground as the Thunderbirds had -23 yards for rushing and gave up only 170 yards in total offense. Snow also had seven sacks on the game to put pressure on the quarterback. “The defense played a complete game,” said head coach Steve Coburn. “Defensively we’re young, but we are showing that we are not so young anymore.” After Snow’s defense gave up 54 points in a win to New Mexico Military the defense has given up only 14 points in the past two games. “We got challenged by the coaches,” said defensive team captain Tyler Osbourne. “They challenged us to play to our potential and we’ve practiced to reach that level.” Snow’s offense continued their strong offensive push as they have scored 155 points in the past three games. Snow College had a rough outing offensively in the first half, but bounced back in the second half to score 31 points. “We were too content in the first half offensively,” sophomore wide receiver Mazi Ogbanna said. “Coach challenged us to apply PHD-Poor, Hungry, Driven and that’s what we did in the second half.” “The offense didn’t play with any passion in the first half,” Coburn stated. “Sometimes we score so fast that we kind of just get complacent and so I was glad to see we jumped back in the second half.” Sophomore quarterback Quinn Mecham(Timpview High School) completed 16 of his 28 passes for 260 yards and threw two touchdown passes both of them to sophomore tight end Jordan Lower (Ogden High School). Sophomore running back Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) had 15 carries for 95 yards to help lead the Badger offense. Snow improved to 3-0 in conference play and now 5-1 on the season. Game Notes: Freshman wide receiver Dontrae Williams suffered a shoulder injury in the second half and is listed as questionable. In conference games number 7 ranked in the NJCAA poll Arizona Western beat number 5 ranked Eastern Arizona 27-2 on Saturday, both teams Snow still has to face.
