No. 6 Badgers Easily Take Down Phoenix 34-14
EPHRAIM – A 34-14 blowout over Phoenix College marked the Snow College football program’s 400th all time football victory.
“That shows just how great this program has been year in and year out,” said athletic director Kevin White, who quarterbacked the 1985 Badgers to a National Championship. “To consistently have a top five ranking and celebrate the success we have has been great for this school.”
The Badgers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead after two touchdowns in 22 seconds in the first quarter. The first of the scores came on a touchdown pass from quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High School) hitting tight end Jordan Lower (Ogden High School) for a 4-yard score. Running back Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) ran for a 16-yard touchdown to make it 13-0 Snow less than seven minutes into the game.
“Our offense really came out and played well in the first half,” said Snow head coach Steve Coburn. “We were able to move the ball well,”
Snow continued putting points on the board in the second quarter, with Mecham hitting receiver Cameron Webb (Mountain Crest High School) for a 40 yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Six minutes later Mecham hit Lower again for a 57 yard touchdown to put the Badgers up 27-0 heading into halftime.
Mecham threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns in the game, spreading the ball to 10 receivers. Webb caught two balls for 53 yards and two touchdowns and Lower caught three passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Church led the rushing attack with 18 carries for 72 yards in the game.
The fact that Snow racked up its 400 win did not get passed Coburn.
“To be a part of history like that is something special,” he said. “The consistency this program has shown year in and year out has been amazing. Our focus is to keep the tradition of winning alive.”
No. 6 ranked Snow (8-1 , 6-0) is 41-4 under Coburn. The Badgers finish up their home season Saturday versus Scottsdale. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live at www.snowbadgers.com.
