No. 7 Badgers best Pima 21-13
TUCSON, AZ – The Snow College football team continued its winning ways with a 21-13 victory over the Pima Aztecs Saturday.
The No. 7 ranked Badgers led throughout and kept the Aztecs scoreless until the fourth quarter in the contest.
“This is an improving team that has played others very tough,” said Snow College head coach Steve Coburn of Pima. “We knew this was going to be a battle. We are happy with the way we performed.”
The Badgers struck first and took a 7-0 lead into halftime, and came out with a two quick strikes in the second half to bring the lead to 21-0 in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High School) rushed for a touchdown and threw for two more as part of a 13-25 performance, finishing up with 164 yards on the contest.
Running back Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) rushed 18 times for 135 yards in the contest and receiver MaziOgbanna caught three balls for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Badgers.
Snow’s defense had compiled seven straight scoreless quarters and had given up only 8 total points in the previous 10 quarters going into the fourth quarter.
“Our defense has really been carrying us,” said Coburn. “They have continued to put us in the position to win.”
Badger special teams also played a big part in the game, altering two would be punt plays including sacking the punter in the fourth quarter.
Snow (6-1, 4-0) returns home Saturday for the first of a three-game homestand against No. 12 Eastern Arizona. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. and the game will be carried live on www.snowbadgers.com.
