Mecham Nearly Flawless In No. 6 Badgers 48-20 Victory Over Scottdale

EPHRAIM – The Snow College football team wrapped up at least a share of the Western States Football League Championship with a 48-20 victory over Scottsdale Saturday.

Quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview High School) once again made a stellar performance look easy, throwing for 344 yards and four more touchdowns to take his touchdown tally on the year to a nation-leading 34.

“Quinn has been a huge part of our success this year,” said head coach Steve Coburn. “When you have one of the best players in the country running your offense, that makes it pretty easy to rack up wins.”

The Badgers jumped out to an early lead when Mecham hit receiver DeJay Lester (Layton Christian High School) for a 32 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Scottsdale hit back to back field goals before Snow running back Tyson Church (North Sanpete High School) ran for his first of his two touchdowns early in the second quarter and Mecham ran for a touchdown of his own to give Snow a 20-6 lead going into halftime.

Mecham hit Mazi Ogbanna once and Jordan Lower (Ogden High School) twice for touchdowns in the second half on the way to the victory.

Snow totaled 516 yards of total offense and Lester grabbed 7 balls for 154 yards to lead all receivers. Church racked up 85 yards to put him over 1,000 for the season.

The No. 6 ranked Badgers (9-1, 7-0) have a chance to avenge their only loss of the season in a regular season finale on the road against Arizona Western Nov. 14 in Yuma, Arizona. A victory would give Snow sole possession of the league championship. The Badgers have a bye Nov. 7.
