John Hunter is entering his 9th season on as Snow College’s offensive line coach. With his 9 years of tremendous service to Snow College and its football program, Hunter is the senior coach on the Snow College staff.

Coach Hunter has been at the middle of multiple Snow College attacks that have been some of the nation’s most productive offensive units. Three times in Hunter’s career at Snow College the Badgers have been ranked number one nationally in total offense (1999, 2003 and 2006). In addition, on three other occasions, the Badger offense ranked in the top 5 nationally. This type of productivity is impossible without outstanding play by the team’s offensive line.

Hunter has coached many players who have been able to move on from the Snow College to the 4-year level as well as a number of All-Conference and All-American players.

In 2006, Hunter coached two players to 1st Team All-Conference status in Wes Potter and his young brother, Scott Hunter. Of his starting five, four received scholarship offers to Division I schools.

The 2005 campaign marked a tremendous year for Hunter’s pupils yet again as both Victory Haines and James Farrelly received All-Conference recognition while Haines moved onto the University of Nebraska and Farrelly to New Mexico State University.

The 2004 season, Hunter again had an All-Conference performer in Michael Nay, but Hunter’s biggest send-off was in 2003 when Deuce Lutui was recognized as a 1st Team All-American before playing for Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans. Lutui won a national championship while at USC and is currently a starting guard for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

Iosefa Robbins in 2002 was also an All-American and received a scholarship offer from the University of Oklahoma. He also sent Garren Findlay to Georgia Teach after the 2000 season as he also was All-Conference. In Hunter first season as the team’s offensive line coach, Jeff Nighswonger earned All-Conference status as the team’s center before moving onto Division I-AA power, Southern Illinois.

Coach Hunter, draws excellent experience in teaching his offensive line from a tremendous playing career.
Hunter played professionally for five seasons in the National Football League. Originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd round of the 1989 draft, Hunter spent his first three seasons as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. He finished his playing career for two more seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

Before playing the NFL, Hunter was a 3-year starter for Brigham Young University and was a member of the 1984 National Championship team. He also enjoyed a standout career as a prep athlete at Oregon’s North Bend High School.

Hunter comes from a gifted family of athletes. He is the oldest of eight children. Including Hunter, every child in his family received a collegiate scholarship for athletics. His father played football and competed in track and field while at Oregon State. His father also was an All-American while competing in the high jump for the Beavers.

Originally from North Bend, Oregon, Hunter graduated from Brigham Young with a degree is Psychology.

He is married to the former Terri Clifford. The couple have eight children – Spencer, Whitnee, Haylee, Courtney, Brittany, Shelby, Cortie and Dallin. The couple reside in Lehi, Utah.
