Badgers Lose In Championship Game
FREMONT, CALIF—November 15, 2005—Snow’s
men’s basketball team won two of three games at the Ohlone Tournament
in Fremont, California last weekend – eventually losing to Diablo
Valley 66-57 in the championship game. Snow is now 4-1 on the season under
first year coach, Roger Reid.
“We did some good things. Our captains (Mike Clark and Geoff Payne)
played well and our offensive and defensive execution was good at times,”
said Reid. “But we need to eliminate turnovers. We had too many –
particularly in the championship game.”
Snow opened the tourney Friday night against Feather River, winner of their
conference championship for the past two seasons. Mike Clark, a sophomore
from South Jordan, scored 16 points to lead Snow to a 72-59 win. Geoff Payne
and Tyler Quinney, both freshmen from Sandy, scored 15 and 13 respectively.
Jake Peterson, a freshman point guard from South Jordan, scored 11.
On Saturday, the Badger’s defeated Sacramento City College 64-60 in
overtime. Payne scored 27 points and Clark 18. In Sunday’s championship
game, Snow led by nine points at half time but committed 25 turnovers –
the majority in the second half – to lose 66-57. Clark and Payne led
the way again with 21 and 11 points respectively.
“We hope to do a trip like this every year. I want to give the players
an early opportunity to play against top competition but I also want them
to see some of the country. San Francisco’s a historic city and we
took in some of the sites when we had the chance,” remarked Reid.
The Badgers host the University of Great Falls this Friday and Saturday.
Tip off is at 7:00 p.m.
