SNOW COLLEGE BASKETBALL
EARNS POST-SEASON AWARDS

by Tyler Hughes

NJCAA Top 20, Conference Title, Coach of the Year

The Snow College Badgers capped a successful season in which they finished with a 23-8 overall record while cracking the NJCAA Top 20 as well as winning their conference title since the 1999-2000 season.

When a team has a great deal of success, post-season awards await.

Headlining the list of awards was the announcement of the SWAC Coach of the Year Award given to coach Roger Reid. In only Reid’s second year, the Badgers were able to get back to the top of conference standings.

His teams could be characterized as a team that played tremendous defense, were disciplined in their offensive attack, that they played with a competitive fire each night and that they did not take any opponent lightly.

Geoff Payne, who was the Conference Player of the Year in the 2005-06 season, fell one vote short of duplicating that feat in 2006-07 as Eastern Utah’s Tyler Kepkay won the award. Payne, however, had a tremendous season while earning a 1st Team All-Conference Award. Payne averaged 21.7 points per game and 6.6 rebounds and was second in the conference in field goal percentage.

Cris Hoopes was awarded a 2nd Team All-Conference Award. Hoopes averaged 10,3 points per game and 4.7 rebounds while leading the conference in field goal percentage.

Point guard Jake Peterson, earned Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition as he led the conference in assists with 4.96 per game and also adding 8.3 points per game. In addition, Peterson was the only player for Snow College who earned All-Tournament recognition. In Peterson’s lone tournament game he scored 15 points for Snow College.
