Coach Roger Reid Starts Second Season

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-November 7, 2006- Snow College opened the 2006-07 basketball season with a win and a loss at the Salt Lake Community College Tournament over the weekend. Coach Roger Reid’s second season at the helm began Friday against Arizona Western, the fourth-ranked team in the NJCAA. The Badgers fell 71-68.

“We did some good things – I liked the way we hung in there against a top team,” said Coach Reid. “It looks like we might have some players to take a little pressure off of Geoff Payne this season.”

Payne, the 2005-06 player of the year in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, led the Badgers with 25 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Three additional Badgers joined him in double digits. Fellow sophomore, Chris Hoopes, scored 15, Adrien Sturt scored 12 and Brian Camerson netted 10.

Saturday, Snow took a 10-point lead early on against Western Wyoming and maintained it to the end, winning 80-68. Payne led the way again with 25 points and Sturt scored 15. Ten players contributed to the win.

“We’ve got plenty to work on. That’s what’s great about these early season tournaments. You get a chance to measure yourself against some good competition but I’m encouraged. We played hard tonight, a lot of guys contributed and we maintained a lead,” remarked Reid.

Snow opens the home season this Friday, November 10 at 7:30 in the Activity Center gymnasium against Casper College.
