BADGERS 3-POINT SHOOTING
LEADS TO COME FROM BEHIND WIN by Tyler Hughes Game Will Be Remembered For A Long Time 67-65 When in-state rival, Salt Lake Community College, came to Ephraim on Friday night you could see a team that looked confident and determined. Leaving the Badgers home floor the same night you could see a team that knew that it had been passed by a team that is getting better and better with each game.Snow defeated Salt Lake Community College 67-65. The Badger win placed the two teams in a tie for 2nd place in the conference at 7-4 apiece in the standings. This win will certainly be a game that will be remembered for a long time by Badger basketball fans. Snow College trailed by ten points for large parts of the game and was also forced to go without point guard Jake Peterson for much of the 1st half as he was in early foul trouble. The Badgers resolve was tested even further when late in the second half while already trailing by 7 points with less than 5 minutes to play, the bench was charged with a technical foul call in protest to a missed foul call by the game officials. At this juncture, the Badgers had so much to overcome, however they used great shooting down the stretch to knock off the Bruins. Reserve guard, Mark Mulford, provided the spark the Badgers needed. Mulford hit four 3-pointers in the final minutes giving him 14 points on the night. Mulford started the barrage when he nailed a beautiful shot with a Bruin defender right in his face to bring the score within two at 58-56. As the Bruins tried to extend their lead making two point buckets, Mulford kept closing the gap as he hit 3-pointer after 3-pointer. The Bruins clearly rattled down the stretch also missed six of seven free throw attempts. After two made free throws by Peterson with 1:08 to play the Badgers trailed 65-64 and needed a defensive stop to pull ahead. Great Badger defense led to a 5-second violation by Salt Lake Community and Snow College had their opportunity with only 18 seconds remaining. Snow College, coming out of a time out, had Mulford set up to take the winning shot. Mulford came off of a double screen wide open just behind the 3-point stripe. Mulford delivered the game winner pushing Snow College to their first lead in nearly 35 minutes of action. Snow was able to fend off the Bruins last ditch attempt to send the score into overtime as Salt Lake guard, Dathan Lyles’ shot fell short of the mark. Snow College will look to break the tie in the standings Saturday night
as they host the Bruins for the second night in a row.
