All Badgers Contribute To Scoring Effort

Michael Ostlund completed his first season of home games as the Badgers head coach while splitting a two-game home stand with Eastern Utah this past weekend.  Snow College was able to pick up a victory on Friday evening while dropping Saturday afternoon’s contest.

Listed below are the game reports for each contest.

GAME 1

Throughout the 2007-08 season, Snow College has often times utilized an up-tempo approach however on Friday evening a methodical half-court game strategy appeared to be in use as the Badgers defeated the Golden Eagles by a score of 75-72.

The Badgers controlled the tempo of the game from the outset while working for quality shots and not allowing the Eagles to get into a rhythm offensively.  Eastern Utah mustered just 22 first half points as Snow College took a eight point lead into the break at 30-22.

Snow College was able to utilize a balanced scoring effort as all 11 players who saw game action contributed in the points column for the Badgers.  Leading the way was Rory Patterson with 16.  Patterson also pulled down 7 rebounds in 31 minutes of action.  Ryan Brimley added 11 and Everton de Araujo added 11 as well for Snow College.

Eastern Utah picked up their offensive game in the second half but a steady game plan executed by the Badgers held them at bay.  Donnie Lao, a freshman point guard, helped keep the offense productive while scoring 9 but adding 4 assists.

GAME 2

Snow College looked to pick up right where they left off on Friday night when they entered into game 2 on Saturday afternoon.  Things were going well early but a late second half rally by Eastern Utah propelled them to a 75-70 defeat over the Badgers.

The Badgers were able to get the game started off right while jumping out to a 38-30 halftime lead.  Snow College remained in control of the game until the final five minutes when turnovers and not being able to get the defensive stops necessary undid their hopes of a second consecutive win.  Foul trouble for Snow College also hurt their chances of a win.  Rory Patterson and Everton de Araujo who led the team in scoring the night before both left the game early after picking up their fifth fouls.

Eastern Utah’s Kal Bay was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points including six three-pointers.  The Badgers were led by Patterson with 17 and Brady Hurst netted 16 for Snow College.

With the weekend split, Snow College’s record is now 13-15 overall with a 4-9 conference record.  The Badgers will look to pick up wins this weekend when they make the long trip to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho while facing the North Idaho Cardinals.

The Badgers will be in action on Friday and Saturday with tip off set for 7:30 and 3:00 PM respectively.  The game can be heard locally on KMTI-650 or at SnowBadgers.com.
