Blue Defeats White 17-14 in Spring Game

EPHRAIM - Snow College concluded its spring football period on Saturday with its annual Blue-White game.  The Blue was able to pull off the victory 17-14 in an exciting and well-played game.  The Blue team, led by quarterback Christian Stewart, scored 17 straight after initially falling behind 14-0.

On the game's opening possession, the White team marched down the field behind quarterback Craig Harrison on a 13 play, 75 yard drive that took off over 8 minutes of the clock.  The White team was powered by a scrambling Harrison, who broke down the pass rush of the Blue team repeatedly including a 34 yard run that placed the White on the 1-yard line.  The following play, Breon Allen punched in the game's opening score to place the White team ahead, 7-0.

The Blue team was unable to respond on their opening drive, while going three-and-out.  A 45 yard run by Allen set up a 30 yard touchdown reception by Casey Glines from Harrison.  The White had scored in its first two possessions and held an early 14-0 lead.

The Blue team was able to get its first score following a 7 play, 60 yard drive led by Stewart.  Stewart was able to connect on a couple of passes before showing off his running ability on a 30-yard run that cut the deficit to 14-7 at the intermission.

In the second half, the Blue defense forced three three-and-outs while giving its offense great field position.  Stewart, along with the Blue offense, was able to capitalize on the field position on their drive of the second half.  Stewart found Damond Powell across the middle on a 42 yard scoring strike.  The score evened the game up at 14-14.

The White team was able to respond with a drive that got the team into field goal range, but a 3rd down sack forced a 52-yard attempt for Tyler Dudley.  Dudley, who was kicking for both teams on Saturday, missed wide left.

The Blue was able to take the lead with just 3:36 to go in the game with a field goal by Dudley from 37 yards out.  The Blue, now leading 17-14, needed one more stop from its defense.

The White team moved the ball to the Blue 47 with a 1:25 on the game clock while faced with a 4th down and 2.  Following a time-out, the White ran a reverse to Mark Johnson.  All but one, Blue team member went for the fake and it left Kapena Clark and Johnson alone in the open field.  If Johnson was able to shake Clark, then he might have been able to gain much more than the 1st down, but a great open field tackle by Clark ended the drive and in effect ended the game as the Blue team was able to take a knee in the final minute to secure the victory.

"It was a great way to end spring drills.  We came away healthy and our team really enjoyed the atmosphere," said Head Coach Tyler Hughes who is entering his second season as Head Coach.

The Badgers now move into summer workouts with their eyes set on fall camp and their season opener against Everett (WA) on August 25th.

"We are on the right track, but we've got a great deal of work to do.  Our schedule is tough and we have to prepare our best for it," said Hughes.

If Saturday was any indication, the Badgers will be tough on their schedule as well.
