CSI WOMEN TAKE UGLY
WIN OVER BADGERS

Things were a bit out of sorts for the College of Southern Idaho women's basketball team Thursday night. Yes, the Golden Eagles came away with a convincing 85-63 victory over visiting Snow College, but getting there was anything but routine.
For starters, the was game mired by 58 combined turnovers. Then there was the fact CSI's two leading scorers on the season, Soana Lucet and Shauneice Samms, were held scoreless in the first half. The duo managed just one rebound between them before intermission.
And CSI (15-3, 4-0 Scenic West Athletic Conference) gave up 26 offensive rebounds to the Badgers, who outboarded the Eagles 49-45 on the night.
Fortunately, sophomore Noelle Milicic (13 points, five rebounds) gave the team a nice boost off the bench in the first half, and things got back to normal for Lucet after halftime as she ended with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
"They were pretty scrappy," freshman Kalika Tullock said of the 12-7 Badgers (3-1 SWAC). "Both sides caused a lot of turnovers, and that slowed the game, but we just had to rise above that and push through it."
Tullock came off the bench to score 11 points as one of five Golden Eagles in double figures. Samms finished with 10 points, while point guard Martina Holloway had 15 points and 13 assists to go with an uncharacteristic eight turnovers.
The first half featured 35 turnovers, 21 by Snow. The Golden Eagles' first field goal didn't come until Pringle-
Buchanan's layup at the 16:29 mark. CSI didn't lead until Martina Holloway's driving layup made it 13-12 with 11:12 left until intermission.
A 3-pointer by Milicic started an 11-2 CSI run to end the half and put the Golden Eagles up 37-27 at the break.
"That group that came in at the latter part of the first half just did a great job," said head coach Randy Rogers.
With Lucet limited to 7 first-half minutes after picking up two early fouls, Milicic sparked CSI with 11 points and five boards before halftime. But she shrugged off her impressive night.
"That's always my role, to come off the bench and be a sixth man," she said.
The Badgers trailed only 69-61 in the late going, but CSI ripped off a 16-2 run to end the game, highlighted by five points from Tullock.
"It was fun to able to play and score some points to help the team win," said the Middleton High product.
Amy Weitzeil totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Snow, while Linsey Hodgkiss scored 13 and Torle Nenbee 10, including a four-point play in the early going as she beat the shot clock with a 25-foot 3-pointer and was fouled in the process.
Despite the less-than-pretty nature of the game, CSI was pleased to knock Snow off the top of the SWAC standings, a perch which the two teams shared until now.
"It was a nice win," said Milicic.
The Golden Eagles host rival Salt Lake Community College at 3 p.m., Saturday.
