Lady Badgers Tied For Second Place

EPHRAIM –The Snow College Lady Badgers came into the weekend with high hopes of capturing the top spot in the Scenic West Athletic Conference but it was the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) who walked away with a commanding conference lead by sweeping the Lady Badgers 76-69 on Friday and 83-69 on Saturday.

Conference Player of the Year candidate Soana Lucet stated her case by scoring 31 points in dominating effort on Friday and came back with 17 more on Saturday leading the Lady Golden Eagles to a three-game lead heading into the final two weeks (10-1 in conference and 21-4 overall).

The Lady Badgers led most of the way in both games only to see the leads evaporate in the second half. In Saturday’s contest the Lady Badgers led 47-41 with 12 minutes remaining but seemed to run out of gas down the stretch as CSI outscored Snow 42-22 down the stretch.

“I thought we got tired and that led to some easy transition baskets,” said Coach Cindy Lindsay. “They are a really good team and the benchmark for where we want to get.”

Torle Nenbee scored 18 points in Friday’s loss while Amy Parkinson added 14 for the Lady Badgers. Parkinson continued her solid play on Saturday with another 15 points while Abbie Beutler tossed in 16.

“They are a scary team,” said CSI coach Randy Rogers. “They are so versatile with their post players. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them again in the tournament.”

The Lady Badgers now stand at 7-4 - tied for second place with North Idaho College - and 16-10 overall. This weekend the Lady Badgers play a pivotal two-game set against the College of Eastern Utah in Price.
