Lady Badgers Back To Winning Ways
EPHRAIM – The Snow College Lady Badgers got back to their winning ways over the weekend with two victories over rival Salt Lake Community College.
On Friday, four players scored in double figures en route to a relatively easy 80-55 victory. Saturday was much more difficult as the Lady Badgers used five second half three point shots from guard Shaylee Nielsen to hold off the Lady Bruins 75-70.
Nielsen, the sophomore from Delta, finished with 22 points including hitting 6-9 from three point range. She also chipped in four assists.
“That was fun,” said an elated Nielsen. “The basket seemed pretty big, especially in the second half.”
Indeed it was Nielsen’s 17 points that led the Badgers 51-point second-half outburst. Sophomores Cami Hymas, Torle Nenbee and Amy Parkinson all came to the life in the second stanza as the Badgers improved to 14-8 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Hymas finished with 15 points and 3 rebounds. Nenbee, the Lady Badgers leading scorer, came back from a scoreless night on Friday with 12 points and seven boards. Parkinson followed up her strong 13-point effort on Friday with another 11 points and four rebounds on Saturday.
“Our girls bounced back from a difficult road trip,” said Coach Cindy Lindsay. “It is difficult to beat a team three consecutive times, but I thought we played with a lot of energy and poise.”
On Friday, Linsey Hodgkiss scored all 15 of her points in the second half as the Lady Badgers outscored the Lady Bruins 48-34. Nielsen scored 13 and Freshman Abbie Beutler added 12.
With the two wins the Lady Badgers move into a tie for second place in the SWAC with North Idaho College. The College of Southern Idaho (CSI) still leads the league with a 6-1 mark.
The Lady Badgers now travel to Colorado Northwest Community College this weekend before returning to Ephraim for a showdown weekend with the Lady Golden Eagles from CSI on February 13-14.
