Lady Badgers Lose 75-55 To NIC

Ephraim – The Snow College Lady Badgers just couldn’t get a call last Friday when the North Idaho Cardinals came to town. The Badgers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as the Cardinals jumped out early and held on for the 75-55 win. The Badgers bounced back the following afternoon to battle the College of Southern Idaho to a 64-58 win.

The Cardinals used physical play to get an early lead on the Badgers and then held on to stay in the top spot in league play, tied with SLCC at 12-4. Sammie Jensen had another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Snow, but the Badgers only shot 35 percent, not good enough to beat the Cardinals.

On Saturday things worked out better for the Badgers as they faced CSI. Coming off a big win over SLCC the night before, the Golden Eagles were hoping for a win over the Badgers that would move them into sole possession of third place in SWAC play. The Badgers had a different idea.

Tara Gehring hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minutes to spark a 10-2 run by Snow and help preserve the win. Jensen recorded another double-double with 14 points and a dozen rebounds. Jaquel Christensen had nine points and six boards, but perhaps more importantly, held CSI’s Maddy Plunkett to only two points in the game.

The Badgers should be able to pick up two more wins this week as they travel to CEU on Friday and then CNCC on Saturday. If the Badgers can sweep their final four games, they will move into contention for first or second place in the SWAC and earn a bye in the first round of tournament play in early March.
